Developing A Vigil Volunteer Program
This manual outlines the steps for implementing a volunteer program that provides support to patients and their families during the active or imminent dying process.  This training builds on the skills patient and family volunteers have developed.  Included in the manual are guidelines for volunteer recruitment, screen, education and training, scheduling and support of vigil or 11th hour volunteers.  PowerPoint training slides with trainer notes to assist in training vigil volunteers are included .  It is recommended that volunteers first complete Initial Hospice Orientation and Patient / Family Volunteer Orientation Training prior to this training.  Both of these related products can be found under the Volunteer Orientation products.
